ImageIn early January, an accidental fire in a neighboring business caused The Happy Cook to close their store for 26 days. Twenty-six days. Ask any retailer what that kind of unplanned closure would mean to their bottom line.

The store re-opened after extensive repairs on February 2, and Ca$hMob Charlottesville wants to welcome them back with open arms… and hearts:

Your Ca$hMob mission: Stop in anytime during the week of February 11 thru 16, make a purchase, and welcome them back.

We’re working on something special for Saturday, February 16 — still working on the details — but we’re hoping that the next six days will bring a string of well-wishers and happy shoppers to the store to help boost their spirits (as well as their bottom line!)

The store opened in 1978, and current husband and wife owners Monique and Steve have poured their heart and soul into the store, and on any given day, you’ll likely see three generations of this happy-cookin’ family minding the shop.

Tomorrow, October 13th, come out to support Cash Mob #7!
This time, we’re hitting the GYM to support The Charlottesville Cardinals, a nationally ranked member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.

Previously, Cash Mob has focused on small businesses and partnered with a non-profit organization on each event. This time, the target will BE the non-profit: The Independence Resource Center, which sponsors the Cardinals.

We have great entertainment lined up for this Saturday’s Cash Mob on the Corner, or Hoo’s your Cash Mob!

Scott T. will kick us off at NOON in the plaza behind Baja Bean, so get there early, mobsters.

This local musician will make you want to get up and dance. And he’s a Cash Mob veteran, playing for the 3rd time at Cash Mob on the Corner. Check out this video of Scott at Cash Mob #5 in McIntire Plaza!

Scott will be joined by local musician Michael Coleman between 12 and 2 in The Plaza and around The Corner, so be sure to come out and catch them!

Shakespeare on the Lawn will perform on Elliewood Avenue at 1 pm to promote their upcoming show, Henry V.

And last but not least, catch a glimpse of The Corner businesses, including Baja Bean. More on participating businesses in the coming days!

Cash Mob Charlottesville has set its third #cashmob event for Saturday, May 26th, and this time, we are shaking things up with a little different M.O.

“Tour de Cash Mob” will target ALL of the businesses at the JPA bridge construction site, from 1-5 pm on Saturday, May 26th.  In the past, we’ve kept our mob target a carefully guarded secret, but this time, we’re shouting it from the rooftops to encourage cash mobbers to come out and support these businesses who have been affected by the disruption caused by bridge construction:

Rallying behind our local business owners is what the Cash Mob movement is all about.  This Saturday, we encourage you to explore this business district with us, and show these business owners some Ca$hMob Love!  We’re going to turn it into a party, with live music, food and fun.
Make plans to join us, and “like” us on facebook, follow us on twitter for the latest updates!Getting there isn’t so tough, and if you want to ditch your car for the afternoon, we’d suggest exploring the district on your bicycle, or take the FREE CAT trolley.

Meet-Up Location for CashMob Cville; Chapter 2!

We’re ready to do it again, Charlottesville!  Our meet-up location has been announced – (thanks for playing along, Charlottesville Tire!)

1:00 pm on Saturday, April 28th, we’ll assemble at Charlottesville Tire, 843 West Main Street (across from where they park those colorful Wahooptie taxis).   Then we’ll march together to the target location (yes, we’re gonna keep that a secret).

Things to bring…

  • Make sure to stop by the ATM and grab some cash, $20, on your way to the meet-up location
  • Rain-gear, we won’t be outside for too long but for our stroll to the store an umbrella or poncho might be a good item to bring just in case

And please plan to join us for the afterparty – a little mid-afternoon nosh & slosh is just what the CashMob doc ordered!
